Terms of Service

These terms apply to anyone using Data Phoenix — the website, the newsletter, the live shows, the Slack community, and any associated events. By using the platform you agree to them. If you don't, the polite thing to do is to leave.

Accounts

You can read most of Data Phoenix without an account. To comment, RSVP to an event, or take a Member-tier feature, you need an account. Provide accurate information when you sign up — at minimum a working email address.

• One account per person. Shared accounts get suspended.
• You're responsible for what happens on your account. Keep your password strong; enable two-factor on Security if you can.
• Suspending and deleting your account is on /account/security.

Acceptable use

Use Data Phoenix to learn, comment, ask questions, and connect with other practitioners. Don't use it to:

• Harass other members or scrape contact details for outreach.
• Post content you don't have the right to share.
• Recompile our paywalled content or republish without permission.
• Disrupt the service — DDoS, abuse APIs, attempt to bypass billing.

Conduct details live in the Code of Conduct — read it before you post anywhere on the platform.

Paid memberships

Member and Pro tiers are paid monthly or yearly. Billing is via Stripe. We charge the card on file on the renewal date and email you a receipt and PDF invoice. All amounts are in USD unless noted.

• Cancel any time. You keep paid features until the end of the billing period; no refunds for partial periods.
• Failed payments — we retry for 14 days, then downgrade to Free with a notice.
• Price changes — at least 30 days' notice. Existing renewals at the old price are honoured through the next billing cycle.

Editorial and sponsorship

Articles, episodes, and events are picked by our editorial team. We take sponsorship money to fund production — sponsors don't decide what we cover, who speaks, or what we say. When a piece is sponsored, it carries an obvious disclosure at the top and in the body.

Intellectual property

Content published on Data Phoenix is owned by Data Phoenix or its authors. You can quote up to ~150 words for review or commentary with attribution + link. For longer republishing, write to legal@dataphoenix.info.

Code shipped on the site under packages/ui and other MIT-licensed paths follow their own licence — see the repository.

Editorial coverage is best-effort journalism, not investment advice or a recommendation to use any specific product. Practitioner content reflects the speaker's views, not always ours. Verify before you ship.

Termination

We can suspend or terminate accounts that break these terms or the Code of Conduct. When we do, we usually warn first — but for clear abuse we act immediately.

Changes to these terms

We update these terms when the product changes or when something surprises us in practice. Material changes get a notice on the site + email to account holders 30 days before they take effect. The current version is always at dataphoenix.info/terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by California law. Disputes go through arbitration in San Francisco unless we agree otherwise in writing.
