About Data Phoenix

A live media platform for the people building AI.

Original reporting, live shows, in-person events, and the broadcasts we stream from them. That's Data Phoenix today, for AI and data practitioners.

I started Data Phoenix as a weekly digest of AI and data news and articles. It grew into a media outlet with its own events. Now it's a live platform: shows, broadcasts, and in-person events.

There are a lot of newsletters and outlets now, and most stop at the news. We came from there and kept going, into technical substance. Tech Talks, running now, goes under the hood: architectures, use cases, best practices, and lessons learned. Demo Stage, coming in October 2026, is new products and real workflows, run by the person who built them. You walk away ready to use what you just saw. Research Talks, launching at the end of 2026, gets paper authors to explain their own work, something usually reserved for conferences.

This is for engineers who want depth, not headlines, and for builders who'd rather show their tool than pitch it.

This is a community-driven platform, and it works best built together. If you want in, get in touch.

- Dmytro Spodarets, Founder & Editor-in-Chief

Our story

More than a decade of steadily building one thing.

2013–2017

GeeksLab, Odesa

Under GeeksLab, Dmytro Spodarets grew Ukraine's AI and data community and ran some of the country's largest AI and data conferences.

May 2015

DataScience Digest

DataScience Digest carried that community into writing, covering AI and data science research and practice.

Jun 2021

Data Phoenix founded

Dmytro founded Data Phoenix as a continuation of DataScience Digest, and the first issue of the upgraded digest went out on July 1, 2021.

Mar 2022

Move to the Bay Area

The San Francisco Bay Area became Dmytro's home next.

Sep 2022

Data Phoenix Events begin

Data Phoenix Events began as webinars and in-person events in the San Francisco Bay Area. Speakers included Google DeepMind, NVIDIA, AWS, HPE, Qdrant, UC Berkeley, Spotify, CodeRabbit, and others.

Sep 2023

Press coverage begins

Dmytro began covering the industry as press at conferences and expos in the Bay Area and beyond, including TechCrunch Disrupt, CES, the PyTorch Conference, Ray Summit, and the AI Infra Summit, recording interviews along the way. Data Phoenix also stepped up support for local AI communities across San Francisco.

Dec 2024

AIC media production

At AIC, the AI Collective, Dmytro became head of media production, recording video and running streams there. That work gave rise to Data Phoenix's own streaming and video production.

Sep 2026

A new platform

Data Phoenix is launching the new version of the site and the platform on September 18, 2026. Tech Talks is live now, Demo Stage arrives in October 2026, and Research Talks follows at the end of 2026, alongside 80,000+ AI & data professionals and 200+ practitioners on the speaker roster.

What we stand for

Three principles, applied to everything.

  • 01
    Practitioner-first

Every talk, every article, every demo is for the people who write the code and run the systems. If a piece won't change how someone ships, it doesn't run.

  • 02
    Earned, not bought

Speakers are picked on technical merit. Sponsors fund the production but don't get stage time. Coverage is editorial, not sponsored.

  • 03
    Earnest, not cynical

We cover the field with the assumption that the people building it are doing serious work. Snark and hot-takes don't live here.

How this is made

A small team, AI agents, and a community.

Data Phoenix is founded and run by Dmytro Spodarets, with 75 AI agents and community contributors. The team stays small on purpose. The agents and the community are how it covers this much ground anyway.
