Ramp index shows Anthropic leading OpenAI in US business AI spending
The June 2026 reading puts Anthropic at 41% of businesses versus OpenAI's 39.5%, based on corporate-card transactions rather than a survey.
Anthropic is leading OpenAI in US business AI adoption, according to the June 2026 edition of the Ramp AI Index, a monthly reading drawn from real corporate purchases on the company's spend-management platform.
Ramp, a corporate spend management platform, says its AI Index tracks actual business software purchases across its customer base — a transaction-based measure rather than a survey. For June, Ramp reported that Anthropic rose 2.5 percentage points to 41% of businesses while OpenAI was essentially flat, declining 0.1 points to 39.5%, leaving Anthropic the leader in business adoption. Because the index reflects money companies actually spent on Ramp-issued cards rather than stated intentions, Ramp frames it as a closer proxy for adoption than poll-based studies.
Ramp's figures have not been independently confirmed against a second data source, so the result rests on the company's own reporting and should be treated as single-source. Ramp draws the index from aggregated, anonymized card and bill-pay spend across more than 70,000 US businesses on its platform, and it notes that some firms are increasingly opting for cheaper models, including from DeepSeek, even as total AI spend rises.
If the lead holds up, it would mark a meaningful shift in a market OpenAI has historically led, suggesting Anthropic's enterprise push — particularly around Claude for coding and agentic work — is converting into measurable corporate budget. But the figure is, for now, one company's read on its own transaction data, and the index would need corroboration from independent spending or revenue data before the milestone can be called established.
