Firebird opens what it calls the CIS's largest AI factory in Armenia on Nvidia GPUs

US-based AI cloud provider Firebird opened what it calls the largest AI factory in the Commonwealth of Independent States on August 8, 2026, a data center in Hrazdan, Armenia running on Nvidia Blackwell GPUs.

Firebird said phase one runs on Nvidia B200 Blackwell chips and that it plans to deploy more than 70,000 Nvidia Rubin and Blackwell GPUs and 300 megawatts of capacity in Armenia by the end of 2027. The build uses Nvidia’s DSX platform and Dell Technologies PowerEdge servers.

The project plants advanced US-designed AI compute in the South Caucasus, a region better known as an energy corridor than a technology hub. About 10% of capacity is reserved for Armenian startups, universities and government, with the remaining 90% aimed at US and global enterprise customers. Perplexity is an early customer, Firebird said.

The opening drew Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Kazakhstan Deputy Prime Minister Zhaslan Madiyev and US diplomats. Nvidia is reported to be planning a direct investment in Firebird, alongside existing strategic backer CoreWeave.

The “largest in the CIS” billing and the 70,000-GPU roadmap are Firebird’s own and cannot be independently verified. The reported Nvidia investment has not been confirmed by either company, and Firebird has not published a formal specification of the site’s power sourcing.

The launch is a marker in a wider push to build sovereign-style AI capacity outside the established US and Gulf hubs, where power and geopolitics will decide whether the roadmap holds.
