Cursor launches iOS app in public beta to direct cloud AI coding agents from a phone

Cursor launched an iOS app in public beta on June 29, 2026 that lets developers launch and direct cloud-based AI coding agents, review code and merge pull requests from an iPhone or iPad. The Cursor iOS app is available on all paid plans through the Apple App Store, the company said.

The pitch is untethering the agent from the desk. As coding agents run longer autonomous jobs, the bottleneck shifts from writing code to supervising work in progress, and Cursor is betting developers want to check on and redirect agents away from their laptops. The app launches cloud agents that run in isolated virtual machines with full development environments, and it can direct agents on a local machine through a feature called Remote Control.

The mobile-specific touches lean on Apple’s platform. Live Activities put live agent status on the lock screen, and push notifications fire when an agent finishes, needs input or is ready for review. Users can review diffs, demos, screenshots and logs, merge pull requests, and direct agents by voice or slash commands.

Cursor, the AI coding tool now owned by Anysphere, is running a promotional 75% discount on Composer 2.5 runs through July 5, 2026. The company did not disclose usage metrics at launch, so adoption of the mobile app is unknown.

Whether phone-based supervision becomes a real workflow or a novelty depends on how much developers trust agents to run unattended. A beta with no published numbers is an early signal of intent, not proven demand.
