AWS makes GPT-6 Astra generally available on Amazon Bedrock

AWS made OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra generally available on Amazon Bedrock on September 8, the company announced.

For AWS customers, the release provides a managed route to call Astra directly through supported Bedrock APIs and integrate the model into applications. The announcement did not list exact supported regions, endpoints, APIs, inference profiles, quotas or pricing.

The Bedrock release expands Astra’s distribution rather than marking the model’s debut. OpenAI introduced GPT-6 Astra on September 3 in a staged rollout that began with a limited set of organizations and was set to extend through the OpenAI API, Microsoft Azure and Amazon Bedrock. Microsoft separately announced Astra for Microsoft Foundry, listing Standard and Provisioned Throughput deployment options in Global and US Data Zone geographies.

AWS said Bedrock applies its existing cloud controls to Astra invocations. Those controls include AWS Identity and Access Management policies, AWS CloudTrail logging, encryption in transit and at rest, VPC endpoints through AWS PrivateLink, and organization-level data perimeter policies.

AWS also said inference data is not used for model training and customers do not have to opt into sharing it with OpenAI. According to the company, traffic flagged by classifiers may be retained for up to 30 days for automated abuse detection, while customers can request zero data retention through their AWS account team.
