Apple begins rolling out rebuilt Siri AI in English-language beta

Apple began rolling out its rebuilt Siri AI on September 14 as an English-language beta through iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27 and visionOS 27. The release puts the assistant on supported iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watches and Vision Pro headsets.

The beta gives users a cross-device assistant with access to more personal and onscreen context, according to Apple. It is not available to every user or on every device, and several announced features remain scheduled for later.

In its Siri AI announcement, Apple says the current beta can retrieve information from messages, email and photos, understand content on screen, answer questions using the web, maintain follow-up conversations and take a broader range of actions in system apps. Visual Intelligence and writing tools are also included. Those capability and quality claims are Apple’s and were not independently tested in the supplied evidence.

Apple is also presenting Siri as a persistent assistant across its products. A dedicated Siri app syncs conversation history through iCloud, allowing a user to continue a conversation on another supported device, according to the company’s platform update announcement.

The assistant uses the third generation of Apple Foundation Models, divided between models that run on devices and larger models served through Apple’s Private Cloud Compute system. Apple says the models were custom-built with Google. A joint statement from Google and Apple says they are based on Gemini models and cloud technology, while Apple Intelligence continues to operate on Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute.

The general hardware cutoff is iPhone 16 or later and the iPhone 15 Pro line; iPad mini models with A17 Pro or iPads with M1 or later; MacBook Neo with A18 Pro or Macs with M1 or later; Vision Pro; and specified recent Apple Watches paired with an Apple Intelligence-capable iPhone. Some Watch functions require the paired iPhone to be nearby. Apple’s foundation-model overview says features using its more advanced on-device model, including more expressive voices and advanced dictation, require a narrower range of recent devices.

Availability also varies by market. Siri AI is not initially available on iOS, iPadOS or watchOS in the European Union, although Mac and Vision Pro users there can access it in a supported language. Siri AI and other newly released Apple Intelligence features are unavailable in China while Apple works through regulatory requirements. Users must be at least 13.

Apple’s usage terms say features that depend on server-side models have daily limits that can vary by feature, request complexity, demand, policy and other factors. The company has not disclosed numerical caps and says it plans to sell expanded access in the future.

French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish support is scheduled for October 2026. New actions in Microsoft Outlook, Notability and Tripsy are described as coming soon, rather than available at launch. Siri Recap, Live Rewind and the separately announced Apple Intelligence features for the redesigned Health app are slated for later in 2026. Apple has not given dates for those app actions or for broader availability in the EU or China.
