Netflix paid $587 million in cash for InterPositive, the AI post-production startup co-founded by actor Ben Affleck, according to reporting this week. The deal was first announced without terms in March 2026.

The figure is the new disclosure. When Netflix and Affleck unveiled the acquisition in the spring, neither side gave a number; the $587 million cash price surfaced only this week, disclosed in a regulatory filing rather than a Netflix announcement. InterPositive’s team joined Netflix, and Affleck became a senior advisor to the streamer.

The price signals how much a major studio will pay for generative-AI tooling built for production rather than marketing demos. InterPositive’s software generates missing camera shots, swaps backgrounds and corrects lighting errors after filming, post-production tasks that normally require expensive reshoots or manual visual-effects work. With no disclosed revenue, Netflix is effectively paying for the technology and the team.

Netflix has said generative AI is already inside its pipeline: roughly 300 of its titles have used the technology, according to its most recent earnings report. The InterPositive deal moves the company from using AI tools to owning them.

The purchase also lands in a live labor fight. Hollywood unions have resisted generative AI in production over credit, consent and job-displacement concerns, and a marquee actor selling an AI filmmaking startup to a streamer for more than half a billion dollars is the kind of transaction that hardens positions on both sides. Neither Netflix nor InterPositive has detailed how the tools will be disclosed on titles that use them. Whether that $587 million buys a durable production advantage, or draws union and regulatory scrutiny, will play out over Netflix’s next slate.
