Mistral adds version control for prompts and skills in Mistral Studio

Mistral AI on July 9, 2026, added version control for prompts and skills in Mistral Studio, its AI production platform, giving both a versioned, auditable system of record.

The feature targets a growing operations problem. As companies move generative-AI applications into production, the prompts and skills that steer model behavior often lack the version history, rollback and access controls that ordinary software already has.

Prompts and skills now carry immutable version history, rollback to earlier versions, ownership assignment, audit trails and classification labels, along with a staged promotion path from an individual creator to a workspace and then the whole organization, Mistral said. Outputs connect to the company’s Observability tooling, so a result can be traced back to the exact prompt or skill version that produced it. Skills can also call external tools through Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers.

Mistral said the aim is to let non-technical domain experts revise instructions without waiting on code deployments, while keeping production controls and compliance requirements intact. The feature is available immediately to Mistral Studio customers, and Mistral did not disclose pricing.

The description comes from Mistral’s own announcement and has not been independently tested. The move puts Mistral alongside rivals building governance tooling around production AI, where audit trails and rollback are becoming table stakes for regulated buyers.
