GlossGenius, a scheduling-and-payments platform for in-person service businesses, has rebranded as Genius AI and raised a $44 million Series D at a $1.15 billion valuation, the company said on July 21.

Lux Capital led the Genius AI Series D, with Bessemer Venture Partners, Imaginary Ventures, L Catterton Growth, 2048 Ventures and StepStone Private Ventures participating. The round brings total funding raised to more than $120 million and pushes the company past the $1 billion unicorn mark.

Co-founder Danielle Cohen-Shohet said the company is nearing $200 million in annual recurring revenue and powers more than 125,000 businesses – salons, spas and other appointment-based operators that use the platform to book clients and take payments.

The rebrand signals where the company is placing its bets: away from a booking-and-payments toolset and toward AI features aimed at small service businesses that rarely have staff to run their own software. The revenue and customer figures are the company’s own, disclosed through its co-founder rather than an audited filing, and are not independently verified.

Genius AI was founded in 2015 by sisters Danielle and Leah Cohen-Shohet and is based in New York. The test now is whether the AI branding is more than a name – whether tools like automated scheduling and marketing convert into pricing power and retention among the salons and studios that make up the customer base.
