Coursera invests $100 million in Andrew Ng's AI-native learning startup LearnVector

Coursera has made a $100 million strategic equity investment in LearnVector, a new AI-native learning company founded by Andrew Ng, taking roughly one-third ownership on a fully diluted basis, the companies said July 28, 2026.

The deal reunites Ng – a Coursera co-founder, former head of Google Brain and founder of DeepLearning.AI – with the platform he helped start. LearnVector, founded in 2026 in the San Francisco Bay Area, is building agentic AI systems meant to deliver one-to-one personalized instruction: planning a learning path, adapting to the individual, and guiding a learner through practice, feedback and assessment to skill mastery.

The two companies will also explore commercial partnerships combining LearnVector’s technology with Coursera’s content library and distribution. First products are targeted for early 2027, aimed initially at corporations, government agencies and universities.

The investment is a bet that AI expands the market for education rather than gutting it. That is a live question for Coursera, whose course-selling model is exactly what cheap AI tutoring could undercut. “AI will be the greatest force in accelerating human development, if we do it right,” Ng said, arguing that “AI grows the demand for trusted learning.” Coursera CEO Greg Hart said the deal “reflects our conviction that AI expands the market for learning rather than diminishing it.”

Those are claims, not results. LearnVector has no shipped product, and personalized-tutoring promises have outrun delivery before. Coursera is buying a stake and a hedge as much as a technology.

Whether LearnVector ships its first products on the early-2027 target, and whether Coursera routes real distribution to them, will test the thesis.
