AI-driven drug discovery company Manas AI launches with $24.6M seed round
Manas AI, co-founded by Dr. Siddhartha Mukherjee and Reid Hoffman, has launched with $24.6 million in seed funding to accelerate cancer drug discovery through its proprietary AI platform and Microsoft partnership.
Manas AI, a drug discovery company, has recently launched with the announcement that it raised $24.6 million in seed funding "to disrupt the traditional model of therapeutic discovery." General Catalyst led the round and saw the participation of Greylock and other technology and life sciences strategic investors. Co-founded by renowned oncologist Dr. Siddhartha Mukherjee and LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman, Manas AI will begin its journey by creating an end-to-end pipeline to develop novel treatments for aggressive cancers, and eventually, other rare conditions and autoimmune diseases.
Key highlights of Manas AI include:
- A team of renowned researchers, including five National Academy of Sciences members, four National Academy of Medicine members, and two recipients of the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences.
- A proprietary approach to generate custom chemical libraries and AI filters to expedite the discovery of drug candidates with a high potential for success.
- A partnership with Microsoft will enable Manas AI to leverage the Azure cloud computing infrastructure.
- Project Cosmos: An ambitious initiative to map the fundamental "rules" of drug binding, aided by AI, to accelerate the discovery of new promising entities.
The startup will develop and apply proprietary AI technologies which, combined with generative computational chemistry and advanced biological research, will dramatically reduce drug discovery timelines. A strategic partnership with Microsoft will enable Manas AI to build on Azure's cloud computing infrastructure. The company expects to achieve molecular docking speeds 100 times faster than traditional methods through the Microsoft Azure infrastructure.
